History of Blinds

It is interesting to note that the ancient Egyptians first used blinds in an effort to control the heat. Etchings on the walls of some Egyptian tombs show horizontal blinds constructed of reeds. The Egyptian slaves were depicted pouring water over these vertical reed blinds in an effort to cool the rooms of the Egyptians.

Typically, a blind is a product which uses slats, vanes or louvers which can be rotated to various positions so as to control the amount of light passing through the window covering. In contrast, a shade is a product which controls light by moving the fabric on or off the window, by raising or lowering. "Blinds" refer to products such as mini blinds, micro blinds, wood blinds, vinyl blinds, faux wood blinds, or vertical blinds, while "shades" include roller shades or window shades, pleated shades, woven wood shades and honeycomb shades.
