Unusual Christmas Decorating Ideas

college fansTraditional Christmas decorating can be quite routine; however, sometimes we need a little inspiration to mix things up. After scouring the web for fresh ideas and a bit of the unusual, some really interesting ideas made the top of the list. Unexpected colors, textures and smells can bring that added touch to your home this holiday season.

Decorate with Glass Balls
Make a chandelier-like impact with glass ball ornaments. Suspend a cluster from a small hook you install in the ceiling. Read more: Decorating Ornaments - Unique Christmas Ornaments - Redbook

Put a Tree in a Different Room
Put a tree in your master bedroom. The lights of the tree can create quite a romantic atmosphere and it brings the holiday to the beginning and ending of each day. Make the tree personal by using ornaments from your childhood or create new ones with things you love about your spouse and family.

Quick Candle Holders
Holiday CandlesFor a quick candle display, turn wine glasses upside down and put curling ribbon, greenery or something decorative in the bell. Add some festive tea lights and you are done.

Holiday Fabric
Christmas fabrics can be used to make your home festive. Use fabric to wrap around styrofoam balls to make ornaments. Replace your curtain valances with large pieces of Christmas fabric draped over your curtain rods. Wrap picture frames or canvases with colorful fabric to make a festive wall display.

Christmas Cards
Repurpose your Christmas cards from the past. Frame them. Use as name tags for presents. Hang from ribbons on your kitchen cabinet doors. Make a collage and use as the background for your fish tank. Just don't let them go to waste.

Holiday decorating should include all the elements you enjoy from the traditional to the new and unusual. Use your imagination and make this a memorable year.
