The Austrian Shade is constructed with extra fullness in both the length and the width. The fullness is calculated as 3 times the finished length of the shade and 2.5 times the width. The fullness is created from the bottom to the top of the shade as compared to a cloud shade, which has fullness across the shade. A 3/8" covered metal rod is inserted at the bottom of the shade for stability.

Since the Austrian Shade is constructed with extra fullness, it is best suited to a sheer, unlined fabric. However, you may specify a soft cotton which can be lined. The difference between a sheer and a soft cotton will be in the number of folds. You should avoid specifying any fabric that has a polished finished or is a heavier weave. If your client chooses a heavier weave fabric, always consult with the Workroom before committing.

Fabric shades can have a continuous cord system to raise and lower the shade at various heights. This system is typically an add-on to the cost of fabricating the shade.

Measurement Tips
• Face Width – Measured from side to side of the finished desired width. Returns are not included.
• Finished Length – When measuring for an Austrian Shade, make sure the short point falls below the window apron. This assures you that the shade will cover the entire window frame. The long point will then fall below the apron of the window.
