FAQ Upholstery

I'm looking at a fabric called "Spree" that is recommended as for 'occasional use' upholstery. Can you please define for me what "occasional" is? How long would that fabric be expected to last if on a chair used for a couple hours a day, for instance?
Occasional is not a couple hours a day, although most occasional upholstery will stand up for that type of usage for a couple of years depending on the person who uses it as well (e.g. light weight or heavy weight, man or woman). Occasional typically means irregular or infrequent intervals, every now and then.
What does double rub mean?
A double rub is a durability rating. This test indicates the number of times a fabric withstood a back and forth rub of testing before it showed wear and tear. For residential seating in an every day setting, a 15,000 double rub would be the ideal starting number. Anything less would be for occasional use. Heavy duty would be 30,000+ double rubs.
