English Country Home Decorating Style

1-800-590-5844   or
English Country Pinterest BoardWhat is English Country style? Close your eyes and visualize Traditional florals with Ralph Lauren plaids and wools, add traditional furniture and now you have a picture of a home decorated in the English Country style.  More is more in a small English cottage. Many factors go into decorating a home in a certain style; English Country is no different.

Let's start with wallcovering. Many times in English Country décor you will see large floral print wallpapers covering all of the walls in the home. Of course, an accent wall is acceptable too. If wallpaper is not for you, consider painting your home with warm colors.  English country flooring options include dark stone or dark finished wood. You can add rugs that have a traditional theme and will add color to the floor. Often windows are dressed with heavy draperies. You want something that has a large pattern, preferably a large floral pattern. You can tone it down by choosing fabric in lighter hues and tying them off to the side. Furniture is full and fluffy and tufting is a must for the furniture and accents in the English country home. Many of the furniture pieces are floral as well. You can mix the pieces by using plaids and solids in combination with all of the floral patterns.

Lamps are used everywhere since the typical English Country home is small with low ceilings which does not leave room above your head for many large chandeliers or light fixtures. Having lamps placed throughout the room will give enough light to the space and the shades can be changed to reflect the décor of the home. To tie the room together you will want to add accents. Small trunks, baskets, and boxes sitting beside furniture will add a place for storage and a little decoration. Selecting simple picture frames to hold family photos can be a nice touch to your walls and your English country décor. Small sculptures and art that features dogs and horses would be a great finishing touch.
