Fabric Pattern Questions
What fabric patterns work best for upholstery versus drapery?
Smaller-scale, tightly woven patterns like herringbone, houndstooth, and basket weave hold up well on upholstered furniture, while large-scale florals, toile, damask, and bold stripes show beautifully as drapery, where the full pattern repeat can be seen. Many of our fabrics are rated for both uses — check the individual product listing for durability ratings.
What is the difference between plaid, check, and gingham fabric?
Gingham uses two colors in an even, simple check. Buffalo check is a larger two-color check. Plaid (tartan) uses multiple colors and varied stripe widths crossing at right angles. We carry all three, from classic tartans to farmhouse buffalo checks.
Do you carry vintage and retro fabric patterns?
Yes. We stock retro and mid-century modern prints, vintage-style florals and chintz, classic toile, barkcloth-style tropical prints, and traditional patterns like paisley, damask, and scroll — including hard-to-find styles from past decades.
Can I order fabric samples before buying?
Yes, we offer a fabric sample program so you can see color and feel texture before ordering yardage.
